VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In a form of repaying an earlier good deed, the Good Samaritan Foundation awarded the Vincennes YMCA a check in the amount of $5,000 on Dec. 23 to assist the organization through the COVID pandemic.
Foundation Director Gary Hackney, and Foundation Development Specialist Nicole Coomer, presented the check to Pat Herman, YMCA CEO. Also in attendance were YMCA employees Bill Davis, Youth Director, and Susie Land, Business Manager.
Good Samaritan and the Vincennes YMCA have a long-standing relationship and have worked together on multiple projects. In March of this year, the YMCA allowed Good Samaritan to use their day camp facilities in order to establish a childcare center on the YMCA grounds for children of essential health care workers. This impromptu daycare lasted eight weeks, was operational when other child care facilities had closed down and came at no cost to the hospital. Good Samaritan’s Foundation Board voted unanimously to donate the funds to the YMCA.
Eli McCormick, Good Samaritan Foundation board member stated that the partnership between community businesses and organizations is vital during the pandemic. “At the end of the day, we are all in this together,” he said. “If we have the availability to offer assistance to them, I am in favor of doing so.”
Good Samaritan President and CEO, Rob McLin, echoed McCormick’s statement. “I think this is a wonderful gesture and very appropriate,” stated McLin. “The YMCA was willing to support Good Samaritan earlier in the year when we needed space to run a daycare center. I would hate to think of Vincennes without our local YMCA.”
