He served in the position for 35 years from 1983 to 2018.
Vigo County Commissioner Brad Anderson called Hanley a “political guru.” He says people often asked for Hanley’s advice.
Hanley’s visitation is this Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home on South 25th Street.
His funeral is Saturday at Saint Ben’s downtown. His burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
