TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – After the devastating loss of a loved one, various families came together this evening to hold on to hope that they’re not alone.
A Walk to Remember was held at Collett Park. The Compassionate Friends of the Wabash Valley is a chapter of the world’s largest self-help bereavement organization.

Sarah Lemay knows what it’s like. Living life after death.
“Somebody that’s not lost their child, they don’t necessarily want to talk about it because A) They’re either going to make you cry or they’re not going to know what to say, so they just don’t say anything at all.”
It’s isolating. But the trek continues and journey like the one through Collett Park Thursday evening…
“Here, it’s just fair game.”
Reminds those grieving that they’re not alone. The Walk to Remember commemorates those lost by uniting their families. The walk is followed by a candle lighting in remembrance.
“The biggest fear a parent has, once they lose their child is that everybody is going to forget that child.”
Lemay took over the Terre Haute chapter of Compassionate Friends two years ago after it’s leader decided to step down to keep the legacy of those lost too soon alive.
“It’s making new friends, it’s healing, you get to chit chat about normal day stuff, about your child and nobody looks at you like, ‘well I don’t want to talk about that,’ because we understand.”
This summer across the U.S, 700 chapters will also hold the walk
