LINTON, Ind. (WTWO,WAWV) — Many fall activities are changing or have been canceled due to COVID-19.
Frightmares haunted house in Linton, Ind. is hoping to keep their decade long tradition alive while still keeping everyone involved safe.
One of the biggest things to change is that they will only be opened the last two weekends in Oct. instead of all four.
Being opened half the time would hit any business hard, but the owner said it’s about the people, not the money.
“We do this for the community,” Kegan Inman, co-owner of Frightmares said. “We don’t really make anything from it. We do it because we enjoy it. We want to give back to the community.”
2020 makes ten years that Frightmares has been opened.
While any big anniversary plans had to be placed on hold because of the pandemic, Inman said they wanted to celebrate with their customers safely.
“We decided we were only going to do these next two weekends, but we just decided to open for those four nights to give those people that want to come an opportunity to do that and to really give the community a sense of community,” Inman said.
The haunted house will sanitize after every group and actors will be wearing a cloth mask under their costumes.
To keep people from standing in crowds, there will be no ticket booth sales or combined groups.
“It was really kind of difficult in trying to decide whether we’d be able to open at all,” Inman said. “What the safest would be because some of our actors have health issues that they don’t want to put themselves at risk. So, we were really trying to find a way to keep everyone as safe as possible without, you know, having to close altogether.”
