TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An early morning stand-off on the north end of Terre Haute ended with one man in custody.
For several hours, authorities attempted to get Brent Powers to come out of a home.
The incident began when the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department was called to the area of Markle Avenue and Michigan Street on a report of shots fired. Deputies said they saw a man run into a nearby home.
The Terre Haute Police Department called its Special Response Team was called in to assist with the situation.
Officers finally threw several “flash/bang devices” into the home before the Powers finally came out.
According to Sheriff John Plasse, Powers admitted to firing a weapon.
Powers is facing initial charges of criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and unlawful possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer. He was transported to the Vigo County Jail where he is being held without bond.
