VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office said one person is dead after a pedestrian crash Saturday morning.
They said the crash happened around 8:32 a.m. on U.S. 41 near Evans Avenue. According to the sheriff’s office, it was in front of North Pines Trailer Court where vendors were set up for the Covered Bridge Festival.
The driver of the vehicle and a witness told officials that the pedestrian walked in front of the vehicle and was unable to avoid the crash.
Vigo Sheriff John Plasse said the victim was given CPR by an off-duty firefighter and an AED by a responding deputy.
He said the victim was airlifted by Lifeline to Regional Hospital, but did not survive her injuries.
Sheriff Plasse said the driver of the vehicle received chemical tests that came back negative for alcohol and drugs.
According to the sheriff, the crash was an accident and there are no current charges.
He said the victim is not from the area and identity has not yet been released.
