TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute firefighter accused of child molestation will remain suspended with pay for at least another week after a merit board meeting was continued.
The Terre Haute Fire Merit Commission met Thursday night to discuss alleged misconduct by a firefighter. Fire Chief Jeff Fisher previously confirmed he was pushing for the termination of firefighter Rodger Plunkett II.
Plunkett was arrested Sept. 4 on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor under age 14, stemming from incidents as far back as 1998.
Fisher said he asked for the merit commission hearing based on Plunkett’s “violations of rules and regulations of the fire department” separate from the criminal charges, though Fisher noted the criminal investigation brought the violations to light.
The merit commission meeting was continued to Oct. 30.
According to Chief Fisher, once the merit commission rules, a public hearing will be held to announce the final decision.
