TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Halloween is just a few days away, and the Indiana State Police is giving out tips so everyone can have a safe and fun night.
Indiana State Police tips for Trick-or-Treaters:
- Children should always have an adult present. Older children should trick-or-treat in groups.
- Only visit homes where the porch light is on, and never enter a home to receive candy.
- Make yourself visible at night by wearing reflective tape on your costume or by carrying a flashlight.
- Be aware of traffic, stay on sidewalks and use caution when crossing the road.
- Don’t eat candy until a parent or adult has checked over it.
Indiana State Police tips for homeowners:
- Make sure your porch is well-lit and the sidewalk is free of any tripping hazards.
- Don’t invite children into your home.
- make sure pets are out away in a secure place.
- Use flameless candles in pumpkins.
Indiana State Police tips for motorist:
- Slow down, especially in subdivisions and urban areas.
- Don’t drive distracted.
- Use your bright lights when possible.
- Expect children crossing roadways.
