GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Greene County residents are still in need after severe weather two weeks ago, and effective May 30th, the donation center is moving locations.
The disaster relief donation center has been at the Linton Armory, but it is moving to the Linton First Christian Church.
Linton First Christian Church has already been helping residents in the clean-up process and through their clothing ministry.
Tanner Butler is the administrator at the church. He said having a familiar local organization helps people feel comfortable both giving and receiving donations.
“We’re moving them to the church because that’s the heart of the community”, Butler said. “We want to be a blessing to the people out in our community, and we are a prime donation spot and already a part of the community. We give to people in need all the time, so it just fits us and fits the role that we have in Linton.”
To help with disaster relief, United Way of South-Central Indiana donated $2,000 to Linton First Christian Church.
United Way’s President and CEO, Randy Rogers, said the money can be used for anything the church believes residents need right now.
“Linton First Christian Church has been fantastic and they’ve stepped up with all the supplies”, Rogers said. “As you’ve seen already, there is an incredible outpouring of support with supplies, but people also need cash. That might be to cover a little bit of their insurance deductible, it might be to cover utilities, it might be to cover a whole host of things that they just need right now because the impact has been so great.”
If you are a Linton resident in need of disaster relief, you can stop at the church between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. If you are unable to travel, you can call 812-847-9535 and volunteers can bring supplies to you.
