TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A local internship program announced by the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce will help build the local workforce.
The INtern Experience consists of five weeks of programming to introduce intern program participants to people and places of west central Indiana. The program includes around 30 interns from several local organizations and gives them a chance to learn about the local work force. Thursday evening, the interns gathered at the West Central Indiana Business Hub, which was created as a one stop shop for local businesses.
Community leaders networked with the interns who participated. Operation Coordinator Morgan Leek said that this is an opportunity to retain the talent built in Terre Haute and help grow the community.
“A lot of them are from the community already so some of them are already connected with each other. They went to school with each other and I feel like they just see it as a important way to grow in the community. Especially if they choose to stay,” Leek says.
“Just getting to know each other outside of the work environment is really nice way to get to know each other in an informal setting. Especially doing stuff around our community like the volunteer work we did with united way which was really awesome to all get together and do something great for Terre haute,” Marketing Intern Katherine Templeton says.
