TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — People of all ages gathered Saturday morning to try and make this community eco-friendlier.
100 trees were planted by residents of all ages. This ranged from college fraternities, environmental groups, to families.
This was part of a campaign to plant 1000 trees in the community by June 29th of 2024. That date marks one year since the violent storm that wiped out over 1000 tress across the valley earlier this summer.
Ann Ryan is the president of Trees Inc., and she could not be happier with the support shown today as they kicked off the initiative.
“We get so much support. We know the folks in the neighborhood are excited to get new trees. It’s good for our city. It’s good for our community. It just warms my heart to see all of the people out here today,” said Ryan.
She also wanted to add that this event would not be possible with the numerous volunteers that were present.
“The people that volunteer for our organization will never know how grateful we are for them and all the work they do for us. Events like these would be so much more difficult of it weren’t for the hours put in by these people,” added Ryan.
Trees Inc’s next mission is to plant 75 trees at Collett Park in December.
