VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Community members are reeling following news that a crash on SR 159 Sunday morning killed Terre Haute South graduate and Wabash College student Nicholas Casad.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff, Casad was driving his vehicle northbound on SR 159 when for an unknown reason the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane of traffic, before going off the road where it hit a tree.
Casad, 20, graduated from Terre Haute South in 2021. He competed on the school’s wrestling team and won sectional and regional titles during his time competing for the Braves.
Casad went on to wrestle and attend college at Wabash College.
Greg Redding, Dean of Students at Wabash College, said Casad’s death has had a great impact on the tight knit college community.
“All of us at Wabash are tremendously saddened by the tragic news of Nick’s passing,” Redding said in a statement. “In a small, close-knit community such as ours where everyone knows one another so well, the loss of one of our brothers is deeply felt. We send our heartfelt condolences to Nick’s family and all those who knew and loved him in Terre Haute and beyond.”
In a post from the South Vigo High School Facebook page, it was announced that a scholarship has been established at First Financial Bank in Casad’s memory.
“The Casad family would like to keep his bright smile and memory alive through a scholarship fund in his name. Contributions can be made at any [First Financial Bank] branch,” the post reads.
A First Financial Bank official confirmed the scholarship’s establishment. To make a donation, just explain to the teller that you want to donate to the Nicholas Casad Scholarship Fund. Donators can give their name if they like, or make their donation anonymously.
