FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A WTWO viewer sent in aerial pictures captured over Oblong, Ill. showing the effects of the March 31 tornado on a local farm field.
The tornado caused a large amount of damage across Crawford County, Ill. as well as Sullivan County, Ind., and would end up causing multiple deaths in the process.
Nearly 20 days later with the recovery underway, a local pilot, Gregory Miller, spotted what is called “ground scouring” in a field near Oblong.
WTWO Chief Meteorologist Jesse Walker explained that the scouring can show the path a tornado took and pointed out how the photos show the tornado wasn’t moving in a straight line.
“Sometimes tornados don’t move in a straight line, they wobble a little bit,” Walker explained.
