TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary of the Woods College held its “Way of the Cross for Justice” program in honor of Good Friday.
Sister Paula Damiano is the Co-Director of Providence Spirituality and Comfort at Saint Mary of the Woods.
She said they took the way of the cross, or the path that Jesus took to his death.
“Friday is a day to remember Christs’ passion and death on the cross,” Sister Damiano said.
Sister Damiano explained they usually try to pair the program with problems that are going on in today’s world.
This year, they focused on environmental crisis.
“I think people realized today is a day to really reflect on what can we do to make this world a better place?” Sister Damiano said.
She said she hopes this makes people realize that lessons learned from thousands of years ago, can be applied to today as well.
“The passion and the death of Jesus wasn’t something that happened hundreds of years ago, thousands of years ago, but rather something that does call us today to look at the injustices that we are doing to our world,” Sister Damiano said.
Saturday, April 8th they will hold an Easter Vigil at 7 p.m., followed by a mass on Sunday at 11 a.m.
