Update: Tornado Watch expired in Wabash Valley, Wind Advisory remains

FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the northern half of our viewing area Monday.

The watch was put in place at 11:05 a.m. and will plans to have the watch remain in effect until 4 p.m. (EST). By 2 p.m. the Tornado Watch had been canceled as the system had passed the viewing area.

As of 12:40 p.m., the Tornado Warning in Putnam County had been canceled.

The Illinois counties included are Champaign, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, and Vermilion.

31 Indiana counties are covered by the watch including Vermillion, Fountain, Parke, Clay, Vigo, Owen, Putnam, Warran, and Montgomery counties.

A confirmed tornado touched down earlier Monday morning in Champaign County Illinois, More information including pictures and video of the twister can be found here.

WTWO Meteorologist Dan Reynolds said the system is moving quickly and could clear out of the area before the 4 p.m. expiration time. The possibility remains for isolated severe thunderstorms and high winds as the day continues.

A wind advisory remains in place for the entire area including our southern counties until 7 p.m. (EST).
