TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– The Vigo County School Board is taking its first steps in the search for a new superintendent.
The school board interviewed a representative on the Indiana State University search committee on Monday night. Search committees are commonly used by school boards to help go through the process of creating a candidate, finding candidates and interviewing as well.
Amy Lore, who was appointed school board president earlier in the night, said they waited until all new elected board members officially started before kicking off the process.
“It was very important not to start this process officially before the new board was seated. We have four new board members coming on, and value their input tremendously,” she said. “Tonight was the first step in that long process that will take three or four months.”
The board plans to meet with several other search committees before making an official decision on who to move forward with.
“We have hopefully a session scheduled with the Indiana School Board Association very soon. That will be another public event,” Lore said. “Then we will have at least one other before we make a decision about who we’re going to go with for the search.”
Lore said it was important for these meetings to be open to the public, as she wants accountability to be a part of the process as they search for a new leader for the school corporation.
“We had questions, none of us except for Mrs. [Jackie] Lower have been through this process before. So it’s new territory. And we want to make sure we execute it with fidelity for the community,” she said.
