TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — New firefighting equipment is now in service to help keep the community safe.
The Honey Creek Fire Department has replaced two old trucks with a new engine and a new tanker.
The new engine carries its own water and has a pump and hose. Its main purpose is to put out fires and also take equipment to the scene. The new tanker carries 2-thousand gallons of water and will be important to fighting fires in more rural areas.
“If there’s not a fire hydrant to hook to then we need to shuttle water in and that tanker becomes very important in those areas without fire hydrants,” Fire Chief of Honey Creek Fire Department Tom High said.
The older trucks these are replacing will still be put to good use. One will go to a fire station that’s not as busy, and the other will be used for training.
