VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer has confirmed that the county will allow the Travel Warning to expire at noon today, and transition to the lesser Watch level.
Under a Travel Watch:
Means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a “Watch” local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended. Emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.

The watch will be active until Noon Saturday, at that point they will reassess.
“Roads are coming along really well,” Commissioner Switzer said. “Will have to worry about refreezing tonight. Not a big deal though. Will continue to plow main roads and secondaries and then subdivisions soon.”

As conditions on Wabash Valley roadways continue to deteriorate, another county is activating the highest level of travel status, the Warning.
Troy Ramsey the Deputy Director of Vigo County Emergency Management Agency as well as Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer have confirmed that the county will activate the Warning Level as of 6 p.m. Thursday.
During a ‘warning’ individuals are directed to
- Refrain from all travel
- Comply with necessary emergency measures
- Cooperate with public officials and disaster service forces in executing emergency operations plans.
- obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.
The Commissioners and EMA will meet again to reassess the situation on Friday at noon. But until then they ask residents to stay off the roads to allow street crews and first responders to function effectively.
