TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Jeremy Ross, the Terre Haute man who was shot by police during a local traffic stop last year that was found guilty of attempted murder by a jury in April, was sentenced Tuesday to 45 years in prison.
According to court officials, it was stated during the hearing that the 39-year-old Ross plans to appeal the sentencing.
Ross was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by Terre Haute Police in March 2020 when police say he brandished a firearm, and a physical altercation ensued. Ross was shot multiple times during the altercation.
Ross was initially arrested for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Two counts of attempted murder were later added to the list of charges. A jury in April found Ross guilty of one count of attempted murder. He was found not guilty on the second count.
Prior to the trial, the Vigo County prosecutor’s office concluded the use of force used by police officers during the stop was justified.
