KNOX Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Knox County officials are ready to invest millions of dollars into expanding the Knox County jail and building a new Wabash Valley Regional Community Corrections facility.
The current building has sat on 8th street in Vincennes for many years, but according to the program’s director, it’s time for a new one.
The community correction building is housing around 90 people right now, with a capacity of 135.
However, capacity limits isn’t the only problem.
“This facility, it’s dated. And there’s a lot of maintenance issues. It’s not real functional,” said director, Scott Brown.
Knox County officials have plans in the works to build a new community corrections facility and expand the Knox County Jail.
The plan would be to build on to the current jail location on Old Decker Road and put community corrections next to it.
However, there’s still steps to be taken before construction can begin.
“There’ll be a lot more meetings before we finally get to the point where we’re ready to take votes,” said Commissioner Hinkle.
