PARKERSBURG, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – An Illinois State Trooper was seated in his patrol car contending with a traffic stop with another vehicle when his car was hit Tuesday morning in Richland County.
The trooper had pulled over a truck tractor semi trailer on Illinois Route 130 for a traffic stop, and pulled into an empty private lot with his emergency lights activated to complete enforcement. The owner of the private lot drove his 2005 White Chevrolet SUV into the front of the Trooper’s police vehicle.
The trooper was not injured.
The driver of the SUV, Verlin Cokley, 76, of Parkersburg, was also uninjured, but was charged with aggravated assault, reckless driving and criminal damage to state supported property. Cokley was transported to the Richland County Jail pending posting of bond.
