TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO) — As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, new life is being brought to downtown Terre Haute.
What was once known as the Corner Grind is now under new management by those who own the Red Barn on the city’s east side.
“We are renovating the space currently to open up a new food and beverage concept,” said owner, Chris Kraut.
Just a couple doors down from the new business will be another place to eat. It’s called Scout’s Pizza.
It will be connected to the Verve Nightclub and feature wood-fire pizza and drinks.
“It was just the perfect opportunity. The space became available and we just took it. Dreams are coming true,” said owner, Scout Wrin.
“. gumbo’s is getting ready to open after being closed for three months. The owner says he’s excited to welcome these new businesses alongside his.
“Sometimes business begets business. It makes it more of a focal point for someone to travel to because it’s more going on in that area, so it’s a better draw,” said Jeff Habermel.
According to Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce President Kristin Craig, the new businesses are reflection of the growth the city is continuing to see.
“It’s a really exciting time for the downtown area and we’re glad to see this progress happen,” she said.
Both of the owners said despite the difficulty of opening something new in the midst of a pandemic, they have hope that they’ll do well.
“With the new guidelines and everything, I’m ready just to take it as it comes and give some value,” Wrin said.
Both owners said they plan to have their businesses open when Indiana State University students return in the fall.
