WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — West Vigo High School honored former student, football player, parent and first responder John Schoffstall, in a tribute Monday evening.
All Vigo County high schools turned on their football field lights at 7 p.m., kickoff time.
The tribute Monday dedicated to both Schoffstall and Indianapolis’ North Central athletic director Paul Loggan. Both men lost their battles to COVID-19 over the weekend.
Terre haute firefighter for 11 years, Schoffstall was a West Vigo graduate, playing football for the Vikings. He was also involved in local youth football.
“He loved everybody, he’s a great father great husband he did anything and everything for this community and not just for West Vigo, but also Terre Haute as a fireman. He’s always been a servant and that”s always the way I’ll think about John Schoffstall,” West Vigo football coach Jeff Cobb said.
A statement released by Bill Riley of the VCSC said that Schoffstall helped coach current West Vigo juniors and seniors for years, including his son. He notably contributed to the football parent organization helping with meals before away games.
Schoffstall was 41-years-old.
