LOOGOOTEE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Authorities in Martin County say a traffic stop resulted in law enforcement discovering a large amount of methamphetamine.
A Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy was on patrol in Loogooteee Wednesday night when he saw a car commit a violation.
The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but the sheriff’s office says the driver kept going so the deputy requested a Loogootee Police Officer to assist in the stop.
When law enforcement made contact with the driver, 53-year-old Michael Clements of Wheatland, the deputy asked if there were any weapons or drugs in the car. Authorities say Clements told the deputy he had knives and there may be marijuana in the vehicle.
During a pat-down search of Clements, authorities say the deputy found a device for smoking meth in his pocket. Authorities say a search of the vehicle also turned up a bag containing 45 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale containing methamphetamine residue and two handguns.
Clements was arrested on charges of dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement, driving while suspended (prior) and possession of paraphernalia.
