“The Red Kettle Campaign has been a staple in our country for probably over 130 years and it is our annual fundraiser. The money that we raise will support the ministries and the programs that we offer,” said Salvation Army Envoy Sue Linden.
Many of the Salvation Army’s programs focus on creating a better life for those in need.
“I focus on finding generational poverty and working alongside clients to help them reach long-term goals that will trickle down to hopefully their children and either break the cycle of generational poverty or stop it before it begins,” said case worker, Elizabeth Little.
The organization also supports members the community by providing them with important everyday resources.
“We also process the drive for back to school programs in the summertime. We have utility assistance for people that are in emergency here or rent assistance. And that’s open every day Monday through Friday. We take care of that,” Linden said.
There are other additional services provided by the Salvation Army.
“We have a food pantry that runs four days a week. We accept calls five days a week and we’ll send them to other pantries here in town. We have a church here that a lot of people don’t know about,” Little said.
According to the Salvation Army, they can only continue to serve with the help of red kettle donations.
Most of the work that we do is really free to the community. So I always say the red kettle campaign is from the community and for the community.
The Red Kettle Campaign ends on Christmas Eve. The Salvation Army of Vigo County is hoping to raise $120,000.
