Paris, Ill (WTWO/WAWV) Horizon Health gives families free books during well-child visits.
The “Reach Out and Read” book give-away begins when children are infants and goes through age 5.
“It allows us time to interact with the patient and parent and talk about reading and how important it is,” says nurse practitioner, Samantha Volstorf. “Studies show that it improves language development if you start early reading to children.”
Horizon Health began the program in June and have passed out 221 books so far.
