More than a year after the death of Officer Rob Pitts, a plea agreement was accepted in the case against Lakrista Julian, who was accused of lying about her boyfriend being armed and changing her story several times throughout the course of the investigation.
Pitts was fatally wounded by Julian’s boyfriend at the time, Christopher Wolfe. Wolfe was also killed during the incident. Pitts and other officers had been searching for Wolfe after learning he allegedly killed his roommate.
In exchange for her guilty plea, the state dropped charges of false informing and assisting a criminal against Julian.
According to Vigo County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Rob Roberts, if sentenced as a felony, Julian faces six months to 2 1/2 years. If sentenced as a misdemeanor, her maximum sentence would be one year.
In court Monday, the State recommended a two-year sentence with one year being served on home detention and another year of formal probation. Roberts noted that prison is not a sentencing option for a level 6 felony in Indiana.
The defense argued for Julian to be sentenced to a misdemeanor with no additional time served.
The judge took the arguments into advisement and scheduled a sentencing hearing for Nov. 18.
