TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Multiple organizations in Vigo County joined together at Meadows Shopping Center Saturday to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Drug Free Vigo County and Chances and Services for Youth, along with multiple local law enforcement agencies, collected unused or expired medications in order to properly and safely dispose of the pills.
Locals could visit Meadows from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to drop off their prescription drugs, and had the option to pull up and drop the pills off without getting out of their vehicle.
According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, nearly 10 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs, with a majority of the drugs being taken from home medicine cabinets and the belongings of family and friends.
