TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Local middle school students are saying “let’s get real”.
That’s the name of a program Vigo County 8th graders took part in Wednesday.
The Junior Achievement program is aimed at teaching the students life skills.
They go through a series of exercises to learn about budgeting and planning. They’re assigned a job, family and salary, and learn how to manage money.
“Some of the responses we get are ‘why is this so hard’ or ‘my parents must have a really tough time’. It’s a chance for them to have a little bit of empathy for what their parents and what adults are going through, as far as spending and items they have to pay for every single day,” says Brett Taylor, District Manager for Junior Achievement of the Wabash Valley.
The program is made possible with volunteers from the community.
