“We’re excited to have them out to showcase what we do here in Indiana from a soybean farmer standpoint. To get to actually walk out into the soybean field, show them our machinery and tell them about our operation,” said Brad Burbrink of Be-N-AG Family Farms.
Senator Jon Ford handpicked the farm for the Taiwanese delegation to observe. Congressman Larry Bucshon was also in attendance.
“There’s a Taiwanese delegation here in Indiana and they’re looking at Indiana agricultural products because a lot of their business people and Taiwan in general, are looking to potentially purchase more Indiana soybeans,” Bucshon said. Even with difficult conditions for farmers this year, the Be-N-AG Family Farms was still able to yield quality crops.
“Surprisingly, even though they got the crops in very late they’re going to have a higher than expected yield product,” Congressman Buschon said.
The crops will bring Indiana great financial benefit.
“We’re signing a letter of intent. And the total purchase of the soybean and corn will be $2.1 billion U.S. dollars,” said a representative with the Taiwan Agricultural Trade Goodwill Mission.
The letter of intent will be signed by the delegation at the Indiana Statehouse on Monday.
