ROCKVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local town says a large state grant will help them make critical improvements to the wastewater system.
Rockville was recently awarded $700,000 from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
The goal is to rehabilitate the most severely deteoriated sewer systems and collection systems in the town.
The hope is that these improvements will prevent overflows and backups in people’s homes, as well as prevent sinkholes and road failures.
“Probably the most heavily damaged area is Erie Street. It needs repaving, but it’s kind of a process. You can’t pave until you repair the infrastructure, so that’s going to be a big portion of it,” says Town Council President Liddy Dowd-Wright.
The town will also repair failing equipment, such as replacing the screen at the wastewater treatment plant.
