TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – We had the chance to talk with one Vigo County Democratic Party precinct committee person at tonight’s party meeting.
Richard Shagley tells us he was among seven elected precinct committee members who were asked to resign.
The reason being that those committee members signed a petition for mayoral candidate Pat Goodwin to run on the ballot.
Goodwin is running as an independent candidate.
Shagley tells us at this time he has no plans to resign from his elected position. He says he signed the petition for Goodwin because he’s a friend.
I was surprised to receive a letter from the Party asking me to resign for my elected position for the simple fact that I signed pat Goodwin’s petition. I was surprised that my years of service within the Party, local Party, state and national for that matter could all be wiped away because I signed a petition to simply allow a friend of mine to be on the ballot for mayor as an independent.”

Shagley says after speaking to the committee person who sent the letter to him, they had a good conversation and he understands the party’s position.
