SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — One faithful man received a birthday surprise from his church family Sunday.
Central Baptist Church in Sullivan threw a surprise party for Jim Benefiel, a leader in the church choir, in celebration of his 90th birthday.
Sullivan Mayor Clint Lamb was present at the surprise party and gifted Jim with a “Take Time To Care” certificate highlighting Sullivan’s motto.
Jim says his faith journey began long ago, but he finally found his true home at this church.
“I went to two or three different churches and then ended up at this one. After I was here for a short time, maybe a year, they asked me to lead the singing in a time or two and one day they asked me to lead it and I thought, well if I’m going to be the song leader I better be a member. So I became a member of the church then,” said Benefiel.
Benefiel leads the choir on Sunday mornings and Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
