The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has free gun locks available for gun owners to pick up.
The gun locks came from a Project Child Safe grant, a program that is supported by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
When a gun lock is applied, the firearm becomes inoperable.
Sheriff John Plasse says gun owners should consider getting a gun lock and should make sure their firearms are stored safely.
“Don’t get complacent with your firearms. You may have had a weapon in a certain place for many years, but your circumstances may have changed. You may have a grandkid now. You may have a child that’s growing up and kids are curious,” says Sheriff Plasse.
The sheriff’s office received 200 gun locks. You can pick yours up at their office during normal business hours.
