VINCENNES , Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Kids had the opportunity to keep their brains sharp this summer during the Junior Archaeology Day Saturday at George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in Vincennes.
Participants got the chance to take part in a mock excavation site. They made their own runes and put a hand print on a pictography wall.
If participants got all stations checked off, they went home with an official Junior Archaeology Ranger Badge.
“We want to kind of show what all the archaeologists do but also why their work is so important. What they teach us and why this is such an important field, but also to take advantage of our volunteer knowledge base. We have a couple volunteers who do a lot of work with the park who have actually done archaeology in the past and are really passionate about the field and this gives them that opportunity to share a little bit more about it,” said Park Ranger Jason Collins.
The next Junior Ranger Day will be in August.
