FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With temperatures in the mid 90s, Wednesday was the hottest day of the year so far.
In a web exclusive video, WTWO/WAWV Chief Meteorologist Jesse Walker showed viewers just how hot it can get under the July sun in Indiana.
He explained that temperatures are recorded using what is called a weather shelter. He noted that the shelter is shaded, and that air temperatures in the direct sun could be as much as 10 to 20 degrees warmer.
Walker also used a temperature gun to show surface temperatures in the WTWO/WAWV parking lot.
In the shade, he recorded surface temperatures in the parking lot as hot as 118 degrees. In direct sunlight, the asphalt was as hot as 155 degrees.
Inside a parked vehicle, temperatures reached over 200 degrees.
A heat advisory will remain in effect throughout the Wabash Valley Wednesday, with temperatures cooling off a bit the rest of the week.
