TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A table in memory of Garrett Sands has been placed in Deming Park.
According to Garrett’s mother, Jayna Sullivan, the table is made out of 500 pounds of bottles caps and lids.
Sullivan says donations from Fuqua Elementary School, North Central High School, donations to the Garrett Sands Kindness Project, and the parks department made the table possible.
The table is colored black, red, and yellow to represent Lightning McQueen, which Sullivan says Garrett was a fan of.
The location of the table is also near areas in the park that Garrett would visit.
“He’s not here with me. So the memorials that people have for family, I have learned that’s a way to be close to them. Although they’re close in your heart, sitting at his table is a way to be close to him,” Sullivan said.
The Garrett Sands Kindness Project will continue on July 23rd at the Moonlite Drive-In with a Christmas in July event.
Sullivan says “The Grinch” will be shown and items will be collected for local humane shelters and pet rescues.
