On June 25th, Alexandra Ward and her family were making the trip from
Terre Haute to Fort Bragg, North Carolina to move close to where her
husband Keaton is stationed in the U.S. Army.
They never made it
to North Carolina after Alexandra, Keaton, two children, and Alexandra’s
grandparents, who were helping them move, were involved in a car crash
on a West Virginia highway.
“We were coming around the corner and
a trash truck was right in front of my grandfather and had just
abruptly stopped. No signals, no signs, just stopped,” Alexandra said.
According to Ward, her grandfather swerved to avoid hitting the garbage truck.
After
swerving, Ward says, a semi truck coming from the opposite direction
clipped the trailer and car that her grandparents were pulling and also
damaged the vehicle she was in with her husband and children, which was
following right behind.
“You’re seeing the cars crash and bump
into one another or you’re seeing a semi coming straight for you. It
hurts because out of everything going on, you personally can’t stop it
in that moment,” Alexandra said.
Ward says she and one of her children were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
According
to Ward, this crash caused their vehicles to become inoperable and left
them stranded in a Hurricane, West Virginia, hotel.
Ward says her and her children will be fine until they find a solution but it is her grandparents she is concerned about.
“My grandparents are a little bit older and they have medications that they have to take and they’re running out,” Ward said.
Although
Alexandra says she is convinced that their situation will get better
soon, Keaton’s father Todd Ward, says their family is calling on the
community during this tough time.
“We’re not the type of people to ask but I’m asking because he needs the help and he won’t ask. I’m asking on his behalf,” Todd said.
Alexandra says they would like
to find the resources to rent a U-Haul or get her grandparents vehicle
fixed so they can make it home.
According to Alexandra staff at Fort Bragg requested that the family keep them updated on the situation
