INDIANAPOLIS (ABC) – You’ve probably heard the saying “slow and steady wins the race.” Well, it is particularly true for one famous Indianapolis race…the Zoopolis 500 that is.
The Indianapolis Zoo in association with the American Dairy Association held the 40th Annual ‘Zoopolis 500’ Tortoise race on Wednesday.
The radiated tortoises followed their noses down the rainy track where a banquet of fresh fruit waited for them at the finish line.
The Madacascar natives are known for their star patterned shells and are considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful tortoises.
This year’s winner is named Ed. Ed beat out competitors Simon and Pippa who came in second and third respectively.
The event is held the Wednesday before Memorial Day and has been highlighted by Top Events USA’s website as one of the top events in Indianapolis.
