Each week, I’m highlighting some of my favorite new songs!
Some are new singles, others are album cuts, but they’re all guaranteed to be stuck in your head all day long!
Like me, Kelsea Ballerini is a child of the 90’s. She’s said that her influences are wide, from
Pop Princess Britney Spears to Queen Beyonce
, as well as her country contemporaries like Carrie Underwood and Hillary Scott, too. So, her music – sometimes Bubble Gum Pop sounding songs like Yeah, Boy to nostalgic stadium anthems like Legends – falls somewhere on that broad and ever-changing spectrum.
Her latest entry in the charts – and my heart – is a sarcastic, waltzy love song entitled I Hate Love Songs that blends all of those worlds together pretty well.
Kelsea has performed the sweet ballad for national audiences twice now: once on the ACM’s Stage and another more recently during the CMT Music Awards with a stripped down version highlighting the clever lyrics and Kelsea’s charming delivery.
In fact, Old Dominion’s Trevor Rosen had a hand in penning the song with Kelsea and superstar songsmith Shane McAnally, which explains why it’s such a knockout.
I Hate Love Songs is a song that I can totally see being a played for first dances at weddings or over the engagement photo montages of all of your friends from high school that are suddenly getting married and having kids and living adult lives.
It’s sarcastic and clever and a lovely song and all….but let’s be real:
WHO COULD HATE RYAN GOSLING?
BLASPHEMY.
Other than that, it’s good, I guess.
